This article is brought to you by Retail Technology Review: Spotlight on m-commerce and new mobile app partnerships at Internet Retailing 2011.

Mobile and social media are having an incredible, escalating impact on the multi-channel retail and e-commerce world. Reflecting this major trend, Internet Retailing 2011 (4th October, Novotel, Hammersmith, London) will be the inspirational event of the year for retailers wishing to keep pace with an ever-changing competitive environment. New for IR 2011 is an industry-centric conference stream with a spotlight on mobile commerce opportunities, challenges and strategies.  Plus event marketing partnerships with British start-up application developer Shhmooze and rich web applications provider Web Spiders bring the latest and greatest mobile apps to delegates.

IR 2011 offers three conference streams Track 1: The Customer, Track 2: The Team and Track 3: The Industry. The third stream will look at the evolution of the multi-channel industry as a whole and will delve into the realm of m-commerce today. Delegates will gain valuable insight into the latest mobile developments and their growing contribution to cross-channel success. Panel discussions and individual presentations from leading retail brands and online authorities such as M-Retailing.net, Aurora Fashions, Group casino, Think&Go NFC, Air Asia Berhad, TruffleShuffle.com, Thomas Pink, mydeco.com, JD Williamns, Tesco and Naked Wines will also share their best practice e-commerce  and m-commerce strategies and project experiences.

Around 50 companies will demonstrate their online and multi-channel retail innovations in the exhibition area. The latest mobile apps and mobile marketing tools will be on show from the likes of musicMagpie.co.uk, RedEye and Salmon, for example. Also exhibiting is IBM, who announced its annual consumer research study recently on the influence of mobiles and social networks on customer shopping behaviour.

Web Spiders is another exhibitor and partner of IR 2011. The company has built a customised iPhone app and mobile site for IR delegates based on the event2mobile framework. The app and mobile site provide a paperless event guide listing all the conference tracks, workshops and speakers. Users can view details on all aspects of IR 2011 and bookmark them for future reference. Visit the mobile site at http://www.event2mobile.com/ir2011/ and download the app via http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/internet-retailing-2011/id463998917?ls=1&mt=8  (available from 15th September).

Shhmooze has also teamed up with IR 2011, following a successful launch earlier this year. This new location-based mobile app allows users to check into an event, flag up their presence to others and check out the professional profiles of the people around them in order to identify possible connections. Shhmooze research has revealed that 75% of people think that networking is hard work. This must-have mobile app takes the pain and element of chance out of networking by linking up like-minded individuals quickly and easily. The app is currently available for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch as well as Andriod, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Symbian and more. To download the app for free go to http://shhmooze.com/download
